Six (6) people died the night of Friday to Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Masisi-Centre, capital of the territory bearing the same name, following a landslide that occurred after heavy rain.

Congoprond  says the local civil society announced the victims are all from the same family including the father, mother and children. The tragedy took place on Bukavu Avenue, Birere district, in the commune of Masisi-Centre in North Kivu (DRC).

In addition, houses and fields have also been flooded by water due to the heavy rains which fall almost every day in the region. Consequently, several houses and valuable goods were washed away by rainwater in the Mont-Ngaliema and Camp-Saïo districts.

Flooding was also reported in almost all corners of Masisi, particularly in Nyabiondo.

In addition to the growing insecurity characterized by the occupation of several entities by the M23-RDF, the territory of Masisi is facing an unprecedented disaster. For the moment, the road linking the city of Goma to the Masisi – Walikale territories is in a pitiful state.
