Our source in eastern Congo confirms that the fighting started yesterday morning, where the M23 rebels fought with the NDC Ndume fighters led by General Shimurai Guido.

News confirms that M23 captured Mpeti in Walikale. One of the leaders of the Civil Society in the Pinga area told Rwandatribune that the M23 rebels chased the Wazalendo people from NDC Ndume, they were deprived of the areas of Minzenze and Pinga.

Fighting also continued in the Kamandi area located north of Vitshumbi which is in Lubero territory in North Kivu, Rwandatribune source Nyamitwitwi said that the fighting in the Kamandi area lasted for a short time, when we were writing this story M23 commanders were leading a meeting of ‘the people.

So, why does M23 continue to occupy areas in Nord-Kivu without firing a shot?

The union of civil society in the territories that make up the province of North Kivu criticizes the retreat of the army of the DR Congo, allowing the M23 group to take different areas without any advance.

Since the beginning of this week, M23 has taken over other areas in the north of Rutshuru territory, including the fishing village of Vitshumbi on the outskirts of Lake Rwicanzige (Lac Édouard), and the area of Rwindi.

These and other nearby areas are said to have been captured by M23 without major fighting, after government forces and Wazalendo militias joined forces, fleeing the areas they controlled until last week.
