Police FC won Rwanda Peace Cup 2024 after defeating Bugesera FC by 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday.
This Police FC’s second Peace Cup trophy after winning their first in 2015, thanks to Eric Ngendahimama solo goal against Rayon Sports, on the 87th minute.
Bugesera FC become the fifth non-Kigali club to play the final after Rubavu-based Etincelles FC (1988), Muhanga-based AS Muhanga (mu 2013), Rusizi-based Espoir FC (mu 2017) and Huye-based Mukura VS (mu 2018).
It was Police FC’s fifth final: They lost to APR FC in 2010-2012 and 2014 and defeated Rayon Sports in 2015 while it’s the first for Bugesera FC.
Only Mukura Victory Sports (1978, 1986,1990,1992 &2018) and Etincelles FC (1988) are the only non Kigali-based clubs that had won Rwanda Peace Cup.
Both finalist Mashami Vincent (Police FC) and Haringingo Francis Christian (Bugesera FC) had won it once: Mashami Vincent had won it for APR FC in 2014 ubwo APR FC while Haringingo Francis did so for Mukura VS.
The 2024 Rwanda Peace Cup final was the 44th since 1975: The were the years the competition was not played due to different circumstances.
