Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov had a phone conversation, U.S. Defense Department spokesperson General Patrick Ryder declared during a briefing on June 25.
“During the call, the Secretary emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine,” Ryder said.
He noted that the last time the ministers of the two countries spoke on the phone was over a year ago, on March 15, 2023, when Sergei Shoigu was still head of the Russian Defense Ministry.
